Maine Coon Health

Health & Zoonotic Awareness in Maine Coons

At Palmetto State Cattery, the health and well-being of our Maine Coons—and the families who welcome them home—is a top priority. While Maine Coons are generally a strong and healthy breed, like all cats, they can potentially carry certain infections or parasites that may affect other animals or, in rare cases, humans.
It’s important to understand that responsible breeding, preventative veterinary care, proper hygiene, parasite prevention, and routine health screenings dramatically reduce these risks.

I took the time to post visuals because it is that IMPORTANT!

Maine Coons are known for their strength, intelligence, and generally robust health, with an average lifespan of 12–15 years, and many living well into their late teens with proper care.

Like all cats, however, they can be affected by both common health conditions and prone togenetic disorders.
At Palmetto State Cattery, health is a top priority. Responsible breeding practices, advanced genetic testing, and routine veterinary care help protect the long-term wellbeing of this extraordinary breed.
